ARD Process

Once a child is found eligible for special education services a plan must be developed to meet the student’s needs. This is referred to as the “Individualized Education Program (IEP)”. A committee comprised of the parent, a special education teacher, a school administrator, a general teacher and an evaluation personnel is called the “Admission, Review and Dismissal (ARD)” committee. The purpose of this committee is to together to create an IEP that is educationally appropriate for your child.

For the parent who has never helped develop an IEP before, the process can seem overwhelming. To overcome this, it is recommended the parent become familiar with the steps involved.
